Our Purpose

The purpose of the PTG is to consider and to respond to issues of common interest to the member associations and the South African pharmaceutical industry.  Some of these issues may be predetermined and others are determined by the PTG Executive Committee from time to time.

Objectives

Facilitate a key industry role

The members of the PTG strive to contribute to an environment that promotes growth and investment in the South African pharmaceutical industry while aspiring through their actions to broaden access to medicines for all people living in South Africa.

A representative body

The PTG represents the member associations to relevant stakeholders, in particular the South African Government, the National Department of Health and the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), on issues of issues of common interest.

Stakeholder engagement

The PTG strives to engage constructively with relevant stakeholders to advance the health agenda of the country and to support the work of the member associations.

Facilitate access

The PTG strives to facilitate broad access to medicines in the best interests of the patient and within the legal framework, while promoting behaviour that adheres to the highest ethical standards and is founded on credibility, trust and transparency.

Ethics

Members are expected to subscribe to responsible and ethical pharmaceutical manufacturing, marketing and sales practices as generally prescribed in the pharmaceutical industry in South Africa.

Members undertake to ensure that they are fully compliant with the Competition Act, 89 of 1998, as amended (Competition Act).

Members undertake to comply with other legislation reasonably applicable to the South African pharmaceutical industry.
